Miner https://codyminer.com/Holy-Crap-1-copy The Halves and Half Nots 2023with Allowing Many Forms We are pleased to present The Halves and Half Nots a limited edition artist's book by Cody Miner and Taylor Zanke. This publication is the end result of various material and formal experimentations using found printed matter and papers. Physical and digital cuttings-out are displayed in halves: the idiosyncrasies of their respective forms in playful dialogue. Hand collated and bound, this book features five types of salvaged papers with inkjet prints throughout. The book was printed until we ran out of paper. Please be aware that, due to the handmade nature of the book, imperfections will occur. We want to talk about the shapes in this book. Where they came from, what they are, how we found them… but in talking about them we risk revealing too much and breaking them. They are, however, already kind of broken. Into pieces, onto pages. We took the broken pieces and put them in a sequence… little fragments, tiny, quiet, colorful, shards, hung together along a line. Balancing in their own gravity. The study includes four figural monoliths thickly troweled in paper mulched-plaster and&nbsp; wrapped in finely knit sweaters, each portraying a material graphic representative, concrete, wood, terrazzo and brick.&nbsp; To curate the work, we treat the forms as taxidermy, looking to the Greek derivation of the term, translating to “arrangement of skin.” Here the artist or architect then becomes the trophy hunter, displaying his recent hunt in various ways, positioned in an action pose or unrolled and flattened, each exploring the arrangement of skins as layers with various degrees of graphic crudeness. The main components here are a series of “stackers,” approximately 4’ x 4’ x 8’ in bounded dimension. Comprised of a structural steel framework, they hold up the stones in a way that alludes to both primitive techniques of stacking, as well as the weightlessness of the digital design environment. Finished with a glittered-white stucco, the stones are understood as surface. Reduced to an aluminum wireframe, the stones are understood as structure - in a kind of analogue to “Rendered View” vs.“Wireframe View,” in Rhino terminology. The fabrication process utilized a cyclical workfl ow to incorporate scraps and leftovers into the final product. For instance, the milling process produces a kind of foam “pebble” as waste. The waste was collected and stuffed into cushions and distributed throughout the installation.
